The ultimate travel guide to Belgium has been released
The Good Beer Guide Belgium is the indispensable companion for anyone visiting the country, packed to the brim with information on Belgian breweries, beers and bars. Belgium is proud of its unique beer culture, not least the many diverse styles of beers, including Flemish Reds, saisons, lambics and gueuze; beers with strong traditions in specific areas of the country. The book also features a plethora of stories on the history of Belgian beer and its many quirks, as well as comprehensive advice on getting there, what to eat, where to stay and where to go to bring the best of Belgium’s beer offering back home with you.
Easy to reach from across the UK (and just two hours by train from the heart of London), Belgium is a mecca for beer aficionados looking to explore arguably the best beer destination in the world. The latest Good Beer Guide Belgium is well equipped to help them on this journey, with full-colour province-by-province maps and detailed city maps highlighting over 800 bars, cafés and beer shops. It features hundreds of beers from over 240 Belgian breweries and has been completely revised and updated since 2014 by co-authors Tim Webb and Joe Stange.
World-renowned beer writer Tim Webb says, “The Good Beer Guide Belgium has been a popular staple of many travellers’ trips to Belgium since the first edition was penned nearly 30 years ago.
“Since then, one of the best beer-making nations on earth has been acknowledged by UNESCO for its skills, with Belgium’s beer culture acknowledged as part of the world’s cultural heritage. We hope this guide will be a helpful companion to anyone planning to visit this great country and allow them to experience the very best that Belgium has to offer.”
The eighth edition of the guide is sponsored by Beer Merchants, who have been importing amazing, small batch Belgium beers since 1979. It will be the last one for Tim Webb, who is stepping down after nearly thirty years working on the guide. To mark the occasion, the latest edition will be launched by Tim at an event celebrating Belgium’s beer culture at the London office of VISITFLANDERS on 19th April.
Hosting the official launch, VISITFLANDERS UK and Ireland Director Andrew Daines said “Belgium’s brewing culture and history dates back centuries, but continues to evolve and innovate – arguably there’s never been a better time to drink Belgian beer. Last year, our brewing culture was recognised under UNESCO’s list of intangible culture heritage and a visit to one of the many breweries or beer museums, or just simply sipping a delicious beer on a terrace in one of our beautiful cities is both an enjoyable and authentic part of any visit to the country. Belgians are justifiably proud of their beer; there’s a vast array of beers on offer, and friendly bar staff are always willing and eager to find the right brew for visitors. The Good Beer Guide Belgium is the perfect guide for those seeking the best experience of one of Belgium’s biggest assets.”
