CAMRA responds to report on the high street
Following the recent report from the Communities and Local Government Committee, which has found that dated policies and an unfair tax regime must be reformed to help high streets flourish, please find below comment from the Campaign for Real Ale.
Jackie Parker, CAMRA National Chairman said: “We welcome the Committee’s report, which highlights how business rates are stacking the odds against high street retailers. Every local high street should have a great community pub, yet there are still 14 closing their doors every week across the country.
“CAMRA is calling on the Government to conduct a full review of how the business rates system works – as promised in their manifesto – in order to address the current system where pubs are unfairly burdened.”
