CAMRA comment on the Scottish Budget
In response to the announcement during the Scottish Budget that the hospitality cap on business rates has been extended, please find the below quote:
CAMRA’s Chief Campaigns and Communications Officer Tom Stainer said: “We welcome the extension of the 12.5% cap on business rates increases for pubs until 2022. This move will help save pubs that were on the brink of closure following the last revaluation.
“However, while we are pleased with the extension, it is only a sticking plaster. It does not change the fundamental problem that pubs are unfairly taxed in the current business rates system. We are calling for the full reform of the system needed to give pubs a fair deal and save them from extinction.”
