CAMRA celebrates London’s thriving LGBTQ+ venues
Following the announcement by London Mayor Sadiq Khan that the number of LGBTQ+ venues has remained stable for a second year running after a decade of decline, please find below a comment from CAMRA.
Catherine Tonry, Great British Beer Festival organiser said: “It’s great to hear that so many LGBTQ+ venues are still open and thriving across the nation’s capital. The actions taken by the London Mayor to safeguard the future of London’s LGBTQ+ nightlife couldn’t come at a more pivotal time, following a decade of decline.
“Pubs, along with other nightlife venues, play a hugely important role in the LGBTQ+ community, providing a safe place for people to come together without fear of judgement or abuse.
“However, we’d like to see the beer and brewing industry do more to reach out to the LGBTQ+ community to ensure that they feel welcome in any pub – not just one with LGBTQ+ credentials. That’s why we have chosen Stonewall as our charity partner at this year’s Great British Beer Festival, taking place in London in August.”
