The Ciderologist Gabe Cook is teaming up with CAMRA to lead a virtual cider tasting evening to mark the publication of his book Modern British Cider on Thursday 9 September, at 7.30pm.

Hosted virtually over Zoom, the online tasting evening will feature Gabe and several guests, including some of the UK’s best cider and perry producers, engaging in vibrant discussion and debate.

Tickets to the evening tasting will include delivery of the Modern British Cider Box, a handpicked selection of six ciders, chosen by Gabe himself. The chosen ciders are:

  • Barleywood Orchard’s Medium Dry Cider, 500ml Bottle, 5.8% ABV
  • Caledonian Cider Co’s North and South Cider, 330ml Bottle, 5.0% ABV
  • Crafty Nectar’s No. 9, 500ml Bottle, 4.0% ABV
  • Nightingale’s Wild Disco, 440ml Can, 5.5% ABV
  • Palmers Upland Cyder’s – Ruperra Perry, 500ml Bottle, 5.8% ABV
  • The Orchard Project’s Local Fox Medium, 330ml Bottle, 6.1% ABV

Gabe Cook said: “I am really excited for the Modern British Cider tasting evening. It will be a fun evening featuring lots of discussion and entertainment! We have selected six wonderful examples of cider and perry to feature in the box which showcase the Best of British, made by men and women all across these Isles. I hope that participants walk away having found out more about the producers, their influences and the passion which goes into making these ciders. Who knows, hopefully a few will discover their new favourite drink, too!”

The cider tasting is the latest launch in CAMRA’s Good Beer Box series, marking the organisation’s 50th anniversary in 2021. Participants will also have access to a one-time opportunity to purchase the Modern British Cider book and the tasting bundle at a discounted price.

Tickets and the boxes can be ordered on the CAMRA Shop here: https://shop1.camra.org.uk/product/a-tasting-evening-with-the-ciderologist-gabe-cook/

CAMRA’s title Modern British Cider, written by the Ciderologist Gabe Cook, will demonstrate that this is the most exciting time in history to be a cider drinker. Steeped in centuries of tradition, and informing the landscape, economy and culture across swathes of Britain, changes to production methods and drinking habits over the last 60 years have turned the cider world on its head. This storied drink is now embarking on an intrepid journey and Modern British Cider is the guide to navigate that journey.

Modern British Cider publishes on 9 September 2021. Review PDFs and physical copies will be available shortly – please do get in touch on press@camra.org.uk if interested. Learn more about the book here: https://camra.org.uk/modern-british-cider/
