Built in 1877 as a home for the industrialist J E Wainhouse, whose name is now associated with the nearby tower. The pub became freehold in late 2014, serving six cask ales and a comprehensive wine list.

The long front lounge, with its many windows, has horns displayed over the bar. Up a few steps from the entrance is much bigger room with a long bar and plenty of seating, There's a pool table in one corner, two dart boards and pictures of old Halifax for you to peruse. The 6 handpumps are split between the two rooms with a blackboard in each describing all the cask beers available.

The upstairs function room has had a refurb with more work to come starting early in 2015 with the installation of a log burner and new signage & external lighting.

  • Highly Commended in the Pub of the Year competition 2022, 2025
  • Pub of the Season Winter 2018
