Leaving gifts in your will

Gifts in your will can play a valuable role in making sure we can continue to campaign for pubs, pints and people.

Since 1971, CAMRA has been campaigning to protect and promote pubs and social clubs along with the independent brewers and cider makers who serve them. We have had many successes over the years, including liberalising licensing hours, securing Beer Orders reform, scrapping the Beer Tax Escalator and getting planning protections introduced, plus much more. These campaign wins would not have been possible without our members and volunteers of past and present.

We have had enquiries from our members about how to leave a legacy, and we are responding by providing some information on how to do so.

Remembering CAMRA

Every gift makes a difference. When the time is right to think about your will, please remember CAMRA. By including us you will create a legacy that will directly support our objectives to:

• Promote and advocate the production, availability and consumption of quality cask beer, real cider and perry.
• Help current and future generations of supporter’s campaign to preserve pubs and clubs as social centres and part of the UK’s cultural heritage.

Leaving a legacy

There are different ways you can leave a legacy in your will.

• Pecuniary Legacy - A gift of a fixed sum of money decided by you.
• Specific Legacy - A gift of a particular named asset or item, for example a property or shares.
• Residuary Legacy - A gift of estate which remains after the satisfaction of all claims (e.g. after all debts, taxes and specific legacies have been paid). Residuary Legacy is also known as a Residual Legacy. It is a not specific amount and can be determined by you as a percentage. Just 1% of a residual estate could make a significant difference to what we do.
• Reversionary Legacy - A gift of an asset (such as a property) left for the use of the named beneficiary during their lifetime, after which it is then passed to another beneficiary, such as CAMRA.

If you have already made a will, you can add a gift to CAMRA through a codicil, a simple legal document that amends an existing will. Your solicitor can explain which is the most suitable option for you and guide you through the process.

Any gift in a will should be outlined as being left to the CAMRA Legacy Scheme, Registered business 02101875.
