Save your local pub

Pubs across the UK are being lost forever to conversion or demolition as developers look to cash in on the desirable locations and unique architecture of pubs and social clubs.

CAMRA tracks the extent of conversions and demolitions, as well as cases of potentially unlawful redevelopment across the UK, with our uniquely comprehensive database. Anyone can help power our campaigning by letting us know if our information for their local is up to date, and sending any changes via the simple form on the pubs listing page.

Planning permission is required for any change of pub use in England or Scotland, and in England permission is needed to demolish a pub too. Unfortunately, there are times where an unscrupulous developer will seek to rob communities of their right to have a say in the future of their local pub, by converting or demolishing it without the proper permissions.

CAMRA tracks this activity, and through our UK wide network of campaigners we aim to hold as many developers as possible to account.

Pub closures

In 2016, thousands of CAMRA members took part in a campaign to win planning protections for pubs in England. Prior to this, pubs could be converted or demolished at the whim of a developer. Since then, the number of redeveloped pubs sites has fallen as grassroots campaigners use the new tools available to them to stave off the unwanted loss of their local. Now we're seeing a worrying rise in developers by-passing planning laws and communities, to convert or demolish pubs without permission.
