Beer Quality Accreditation (BQA)

CAMRA’s Beer Quality Accreditation uses the National Beer Scoring System (NBSS) to award pubs a 1-3 pint rating based on member scores over time. This rating highlights pubs serving good to great quality cask beer, helping consumers find the best ale.

How We Display Scores on Our Site

To simplify understanding beer quality, we use pint symbols:

3 full pints:

Average score of 3.6 or above - assessed by CAMRA members as serving great real ale.

2 full pints:

Average scores from 3.0 to 3.5 - If you’re looking for a good, decent pint then look no further.

1 full pint:

Average scores between 2.5 to 2.9 - Serves a drinkable pint but quality may vary.

Insufficient:

Indicates either insufficient scores for the venue or no real ale available.

Note: Scores reflect the last twelve months of beer quality data, providing a current glimpse into what to expect. Except where a specific date has been supplied, for instance when a pub changes hands. New scores are not reflected instantly, and have a one month delay in being attributed.

Visibility of Scores

Registered users can reveal scores for up to two pubs or clubs, aiding in planning your visits. After using all two 'reveals,' consider subscribing or joining CAMRA as a member for unlimited access. Subscribers and members enjoy full visibility of all scores and filters to discover the best places to visit.

Score Breakdown

The score breakdown for pubs and clubs is only visible to CAMRA members who have a national, regional or branch committee position. They can view a breakdown of how the BQA score is calculated for each pub. It will show the number of different score received during the calculated period. This will show something similar to this:
