Historic Interest
Originally a pub named the Letters dating from at least 1892. A Yates;s Brewery pub, later John Smiths. Closed in 1966 but reopened and continued trading as traditional pub as the Letters into the 1980s selling at various times, Bass, Whitbread and John Smith's beers. Described in 1980 as a busy town pub serving Draught Bass. Later trading as Sony's on the Square then refurbished as Chambers Bar & Grill and then changed to The Flying Horse. Reopened on 27th March 2016 as the Argyle Ale House but closed 3 months later. Reopened in March 2017 as Rainbows and closed again in June 2017. Bar changed its name to Sue's Bar and reopened on 10th August 2017. The black & white photos show the pub in 1986.
