Historic Interest
Two adjacent pubs, Market Inn and Barristers, combined to form Hornblowers. Barristers (No. 22), dating from at least 1860, it was originally the Globe Vaults, then the Globe Wine Tavern, bought by Bents Brewery in 1902; changed its name to Barristers by the early 1980s then became part of Hornblowers. The Market Inn (No. 26) dates back to at least 1850 when it was listed in Bagshaw’s Directory. Selling Whitbread beers in the 1980s, closed and merged into Hornblowers. The early photo of Market Street shows both pubs with a shop (No. 24) between them at the time.
