Friendly roadside food-orientated pub. Large main bar with restaurant leading off one end.
As you approach the pub there is a West facing terrace out front with bench/table combos where one can sip beer and watch the sun go down (though accompanied by the noise of passing cars). When surveyed the terrace was covered by a large tent, a vestige of Covid days.
As you enter the pub the you find yourself in the bar with the serving area to the rear. This makes a very welcoming sight particularly if you have spent some effort getting there. To the left you will find the restaurant. At the leftmost end of the bar there is an unusual nook housing a table allowing for semi private dining or drinking.
The fabric of the building shows its pedigree off well with a mix of naked Cotswold Stone walls with some still covered with the lime plaster. The ceiling proudly shows of its exposed support beams and the floor is naked boards. The West aspect has stone mullioned windows with steel framed glass vents allowing light to stream in.
A real fire adds to the experience in the winter. The furniture, art and lighting make for a very pleasant ambience. The pub also benefits from accommodation with 3 rooms available to guests.
When surveyed there were building works going on at the far-right end of the pub. The toilets are being remodelled to make them disabled friendly, a new underground beer cellar is being excavated (currently the cellar is an above ground room) and over this cellar a new Restaurant is being built that will be larger (40 covers) than the current narrow one with a squarer layout. The works are no real inconvenience to customers with toilets being provided by a substitute portacabin on the terrace.
