First licensed in 1758, this is an imposing terracotta and red brick edifice rebuilt in 1892 and designed by Thomas Verity. The pub is named after John Churchill, who was created Duke of Marlborough after his decisive victory at the battle of Blenheim in 1704.
After a period of closure the pub reopened in Nov 2025 with strategic support from the team behind The Devonshire in Soho – publican Oisín Rogers, Flat Iron founder Charlie Carroll and Ashley Palmer-Watts, former executive chef of The Fat Duck. The Devonshire's celebrated Guinness installation has been replicated and with two handpumps, cask ales are also amongst the drinks offering.
Downstairs, there is a bespoke pizzeria named Crisp, under the control of Carl McCluskey who created the crisp pizza fame of Chancellor's pub in Hammersmith, but now making "award-winning pizzas in what promises to be a cool, inviting speakeasy environment". The pizzas here are New York style rather than Neapolitan, hence with thin and crisp crusts, not chewy ones. As of opening date they are not served in the bar, only downstairs. Nuts and crisps are available as bar snacks.
The pub requests no laptops or loud 'phone calls.
