Historic Interest
Built in 1838, it was listed in Bagshaw’s Directory of 1850. The Monks Ferry Hotel apparently changed its name in the 1850s. An Argyle Brewery pub transferred to Birkenhead Brewery in 1866. The building was sold in 1891 and became the trading premises of R Perry & Co, sail maker and ship chandler. The photo shows the building after it ceased being a pub.
