This Pub is Closed Long Term

In the village centre, a sturdy-looking brick-built detached pub, probably of late-Victorian age. The pub's interior consists of one L-shaped room with skittles and darts facilities at one end, public bar space in the middle and a snug type at the other end. Conveniently situated to rehydrate passing hikers on Leicestershire Round and cyclists on cycle route 6. However, there is unfortunately no bus service to the village; the nearest bus stop is probably about 2 miles away in Countesthorpe.

Historic Interest

The pub was named after the victorious Governor of Gibraltar when it was besieged for three and a half years (July 1779 to February 1783) by the full naval and military strengths of the French and Spanish. The village was formerly named Willoughby Waterless.
