This Pub is Temporarily Closed
Independent pub, reopened in Autumn 2024 following a fire, offering local ales, ciders, pool table and music.
Food is planned when the kitchen is ready (September 2024 update), recently offering a menu Saturdays and roasts on Sundays.
The imposing 18th century brick frontage of this Grade I listed building hides a 15th century structure that was the Whittington family town house until 1546. It has a the spacious medieval interior. Downstairs, the Black Cat cellar bar is available for events, parties and private functions.
Opening times Monday to Thursday are '4pm to close'.
Historic Interest
Grade I Listed. Built late 15th century as a merchant's house, then a shop & dwelling before becoming a pub in the mid 20th century. Elizabeth I reputedly stayed at The Dick Whittington in 1574 and the paintings to decorate the house for her visit are still in the accommodation above. Historic England List UID: 1245074
