This Pub is Permanently Closed
The Victory traded from 1839 to 1966. It was situated on the junction of Clarence Street and Union Street, Sadly, nothing is left of either of either of these streets.
The archive image shows that, in common with a small number of other pubs in the town, the Victory was part of the tied estate of London brewers Charrington & Co Ltd.
After closure, this fine building was torn down and the site is now occupied by the Lord Street car park. Not all the borough's residents would necessarily see this as an improvement.
Thanks to www.dover-uk.com for use of the archive images.
