This Pub is Permanently Closed
Situated on the edge of the town centre, The Globe traded from 1778 until its closure in 2001. For the last few years of its life it was renamed 'The Venue' but evidently the drinking public did not think much of this rebranding.
The older of the archive images (thanks to www.dover-kent.com for sharing) suggests that at one time the pub had been part of the tied estate of the City of London Brewery. This would have been unusual for the area as the vast majority of Gravesend pubs were tied to local breweries. It may later have been sold on to Hoare & Co of East Smithfield, before passing to Charrington's (see the more recent image) on takeover in 1933.
After closure this fine building was thankfully preserved and it is now (2020) a bathroom accessory emporium.
