Large family-operated free house beside the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal, near to Slimbridge Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust.
Three well-kept permanent ales, one from a local brewery (often more in peak summertime), complement the large range of ciders and perries. It is very popular for food with several segregated dining areas including the conservatory and unusual "Hayloft".
There is also a skittle alley which can be used if there isn't a league match or tables set out along it.
Opening and closing times my vary, particularly during quiet or busy periods (often open much later for skittles matches).
Accommodation includes a family room and a modern a lodge alongside.
The camp site at the rear is open all year and is accessed through the car park.

Historic Interest
The building started as a smallholding in the 1700s, but in the early 1800s when the canal was being dug by hand by retired Irish navvy soldiers it attained a licence, remaining as a beer and cider house until the 1950s when it became fully licensed. The Shepherd's Patch refers to the high ground on which sheep used to be kept in times of flood. by 'retired' Irish Navigator Soldiers.
