Refurbished by new owners in March 2025, this village pub is approx. two miles from the Harwell Science Centre and two and a half miles from the Ridgeway national trail, with an emphasis on real and craft ales.
Reopened on 14 March 2025 with a name change to Crown at Chilton from Rose & Crown having temporarily closed about 20 December 2024 under the previous owner. It is a sister pub to the George at Upton.
The refurbishment is very sympathetic to the pub, with a comfortable snug-like locals area to the right of the bar, comfortably furnished with high back leather chairs and sofas. The former alcove area towards the back has been opened up and refurbished into what will be come more of a dining area later in 2025.
There are four beers are available on handpump, with the house Crown Best Bitter being brewed by Theakston, as well as Timothy Taylor Landlord and Theakston Best as regular ales. The rotating ale is often from local breweries Loddon and Loose Cannon. There are also 12 craft ale and cider taps on the right hand side of the bar.
The opening hours are still evolving as the pub awaits the completion of its facilities, especially a new kitchen. Those shown are as advertised for Summer 2025. At present an outside barbeque and grill is being set up to provide a food offering to customers on a semi-regular basis on most evenings. This includes burgers, fish and chips, Mediterranean type grills, etc. This food is available to takeaway. The food service times and further extended opening hours will be posted on the pub's social media or can be found by phoning.
This Pub serves 1 changing beer (often from Loddon and Loose Cannon) and 2 regular beers.
