Probably rebuilt in the late 19th century. The frontage has two timbered gables and a central entrance with a bay window each side. The interior was refurbished in 2017 and consists of a plain front bar, which appears to be two rooms knocked into one, stretching the full width of the front elevation; and a similar-sized rear public bar with skittles table and darts. The bars are decorated with illustrations of musicians and actors, and there are TVs for music and sport. On the left side is a small patio surrounded by old outbuildings; there is also a raised garden on the right. No meals, but cobs are often available. Located about 1km west of the village centre, but the regular 85 bus stops close by.

Historic Interest

A former Ind Coope (Burton-upon-Trent) pub. It was originally the Railway Hotel, and its name relates to its close proximity to the site of Countesthorpe Railway Station. Historic Ordnance Survey maps show the hotel sited to the west of the railway, but by 1902, the hotel had been rebuilt in its current location, east of the former railway.

British Railways closed the Leicester to Rugby line and its stations, including Countesthorpe, on 1 January 1962. Although closure of the railway was not related to the Beeching Report (which was published later), a cul-de-sac behind the pub is named Beechings Close, and the gardens of the houses on the west side of the close meet with the boundary of the old line.
