Large comfortable bar in hotel (Premier Inn) and restaurant but caters for non guests too. Unashamedly food focussed but does keep two real ales

Open for buffet all you can eat breakfast every day. Carvery served on Sunday.

As you look at the impressive façade there are two entranceways, to the left you will enter the older part of the building via a ramp catering to wheelchair users and into an area punctuated by walls dividing the area up This suits family or friendship groups for a more private experience.

The main entranceway is the rightmost one up some steps where the bar is in front up further steps and the main large open plan seating areas may be found, one to the front generously lit with light from a wall of glass windows on the West and North aspects. Behind this in a slightly higher level there is a further open plan seating area

The Hotel may be found to the rear with a walkway through from the bar area.

Dogs are welcomed in the garden

Stratford Lodge was grade II listed on 25 June 1974 Historic England ID: 1267452 English Heritage Legacy ID: 418694

The Old Nelson was formally Stratford Lodge which was built in the early 19th century for a Spanish lord, with bricks were brought over from Spain specially to construct the building. It has been a monastery, it was the last home of Walter Stanton M.P., and later an independent day school for boys and girls called Nelson School (named after the headmaster). This closed around 1990.
