Popular, 17th century pub clinging to the side of the Slad valley with superb views. Achieved fame through the late 'Cider with Rosie' author Laurie Lee, who was a regular and instrumental in saving the pub from closure.
The pub has been thoughtfully restored, including the addition of built-in dark wooden settles in the end rooms. Outside at the front there is a long fixed table with seating which serves as a smoking area - protected by a canvas awning in wet weather - together with a raised, decked patio area down steps to the left side and toilets in a separate building down steps to the right side.
The recent addition of sympathetically designed and constructed two-storey extension creates a restaurant area, a new cellar and larger kitchen. A mural painting of the Slad Valley is on the ceiling over the restaurant area.
Dogs and walkers welcome.
