Family run traditional ale house. Popular with cyclists, cathedral visitors and fans attending Gloucester Rugby home matches. Hosts two beer festivals each year in March and June with as many as 40 beers, as well as a tap-takeover in October. 10 Real ales and four or five craft kegs on at all other times. The attractive patio area at the rear hosts a food wagon on rugby match days.

Licensed as an alehouse in the 17th-Century, people believe that some of its beams could have come from Drake's Golden Hind which began life as the Pelican. Rescued and refurbished by Wye Valley Brewery in 2012.

Multi award-winning for beer quality receiving Gloucestershire CAMRA Pub of the Year 2020 and 2023, Gloucester City Pub of the Year 2014-18 and 2020. Cider Pub of the Year 2018.

Historic Interest

Dating from 1679 and Grade II Listed. The pub has always been known as the Pelican Inn though for a brief period (under the ownership of Banks's Brewery 1995-1999) it was called The College Arms. Grade II listed UID: 1271735
