With 14 Hotel Rooms.
Located in the historic narrow streets near Winchester College, this Grade II listed pub dating from 1755 was sensitively refurbished in 2022. The distinctive curved glass entrance doors lead straight into the busy main bar area, which makes good use of old school desks as bar tables. Various memorabilia, including beer tankards, walking sticks and antique naval pictures, adorns the pub's six interconnected rooms. There is limited outside seating in the courtyard/patio at the rear of the pub. Upstairs are 14 luxury ensuite bedrooms and a small function room which is licensed for weddings.
Food, menu rated at 2 AA rosettes since 2013, is served in two restaurant areas to the left and rear of the main bar area. The wine list includes 30 wines available by the glass. Dogs are welcome in the bar area, but intrusive mobile phones are not. The rare, wall-mounted Victorian post box in the building opposite the front door attracts aficionados from around the nation!
