CLOSED suddenly early in July 2015 and now behind hoardings with notices indicating that 'Five Guys' have applied for the necessary permission to alter the interior to suit whatever it is they want to do with it.

For two years, the Swift had been Fuller's American-style diner. Two handpumps were situated behind the bar. Guest beer changed weekly from an independent brewery or a Fuller’s seasonal beer. Eight taps between the handpumps dispensed seven keg beers from the UK (e.g. Fuller’s Frontier, Meantime Yakima Red), USA (e.g. Sierra Nevada, Brooklyn) and Germany (Veltins) and one keg cider (Aspalls Cyder). Also over twenty bottled beers including Rocky Head Pale Ale, Windsor & Eton Republika and Anchor Liberty. Beer-based cocktail were also available. An American diner-themed bar and restaurant reminiscent of a ’50s style industrial bar with a row of tables and bench seating with some individual tables and chairs, bare floorboards and painted walls and white tiling, with New York place and bus signs, and a ‘WALK/DONT WALK’ sign above the bar. A poster showed the relationship between various beer styles. Food included burgers, hotdogs and pizza.

Converted from bank premises in 1995 and named P Shannon and Sons until 2000 when renamed Whistle & Flute. Reopened and renamed August 2013 after refurbishment, initially without real ale, which was restored in October 2013 following representations by CAMRA.
