Small, highly traditional town-centre pub, as many as six real ales on. Front bar-room leads to two further rooms, one with an upright piano and the rear room has darts and can be closed off for small meetings.

Beer range from popular national and regional brewers, plus one free choice guest ale, served at weekends, always from a local or rare brewery.

Has a good selection of malt whiskies and holds 3-4 tutored tastings per year.

Selected as local sub-branch Pub of the Year 2013/2014/2015/2018/2019/2022/2023/2025

Has appeared in the Good Beer Guide over many years, currently continuously since 2013.
