The Railway Inn is located in Hyde Lane, just behind Newnham's distinctive Clock Tower. It's over 60 years since the last train arrived or departed from Newnham and now only the sound of passing trains can be heard on the South Wales mainline. The pub has interesting photographs of bygone Newnham, with railwayana and other items of interest including a Flowers Brewery sign. Flagstone floors and an old settle give the pub a real homely traditional feel. A few years ago its future was in doubt, but fortunately it has regained its popularity with weekly live music events. Apart from being a cosy local the Railway doubles up as a Tandoori takeaway restaurant with an upstairs dining room.
Wye Valley Butty Bach and HPA tend to be the usual beers on offer, with ocassional guests.
About twenty years ago the Railway Inn was an acclaimed real cider pub, nominated as Gloucestershire CAMRA Cider Pub of the Year in 2007. Back then 60 ciders and perries were sold at the pub. Unfortunately no real ciders are on offer at the pub today.
The Railway Inn has a secluded and pleasant beer garden to the rear. When leaving the pub take note of the George Hotel Family & Commercial signage on the building near the Clock Tower.
This Pub serves 2 changing beers and 2 regular beers.
