This fine old pub has an enviable riverside location without being quite on the river. The original Old Anchor was over the road on a site on the river that it shared with an almshouse. Three houses were remodelled to create the new inn with new almshouses next to it when St Helen's Wharf was redeveloped in 1884. There are several small rooms and a courtyard garden. Struggled for some time until Greene King did not renew when lease expired in May 2023. Now (August 2025) in new hands and intending to put more emphasis on food and will open at 9.30 Friday and Saturday for breakfast. Not doing food just yet.
