Event Venue.
Free House/bar and night club in former commercial premises opened by 1997. By 2005 partly converted to ‘Illusions’ night club and partly to ‘Take 2wo’ Caribbean restaurant with no draught beer. Later Hideaway Jazz Cafe. Website claims "We also feature bottled beers from around the world as well as real ales and lagers on tap and a very good selection of quality wines."
The Hideaway closed in 2020. Two planning applications have been submitted:-
22/01081/FUL - Demolition of no. 2 Empire Mews; erection of hotel (Use Class C1) comprising basement, ground plus 6-storeys, incorporating a sui generis live music venue unit at ground floor; external alterations at no. 225 Streatham High Road approved February 2024
23/02505/FUL - Refurbishment of the building, involving the reconfiguration of the existing residential units, including infill extension to the internal courtyard and erection of a roof top to provide 4 additional residential units (making a total of 18 units), together with facade enhancements, incorporating rear balconies to the rear, the provision of refuse /cycle stores and other associated works. (Retaining Use Class E at lower and part ground floor)
