This Pub is Permanently Closed
The General Gordon was a huge pub on Gravesend's Kings Farm estate. It began life in 1932 as a Charrington's house (see photo) but was later passed to Whitbread in whose hands it remained until closure in 1992. The pub offered a variety of entertainments including several American Pool tables and a number of full size snooker tables! Live entertainment also featured and (I hope) to their everlasting shame the locals are said to have booed David Bowie off stage in 1969.
Shortly after closure the pub mysteriously went on fire, paving the way for redevelopment of the site as housing.
