Historic Interest
Rebuilt in 1876, this was originally a wine merchants under the name of G. Pamphilon & Son Ltd (the business dating back to 1775) with dwellings above and replaced a traditional Kentish weatherboarded building. With the rebuilding, the premises were expanded with a courtyard and stables to the rear, both now lost due to redevelopment. The right-hand arched portal still has the original name displayed above, this once serving as the entrance to the courtyard as well as the wine vaults and bottling stores. Carved bunches of grapes and bacchanalian heads are still present on the external columns (celebrating the import of champagne from France as part of the family business). The frontage was later re-faced in white stone with PAMPHILON written on the top above the 2nd floor windows, with a three-sided clock just below. This was converted into a pub in 1994 as the "George Pamphilon", later changing into an Australian themed "Walkabout" bar in 2008, "TPs" sports bar in 2012, "Mascots" sports bar in 2015 and "Bar Sport" later that same year.
