This 15th century pub has been much restored and modernised recently and now has two bars and a function area for up to 120 people. Regular live music and beer festival on August BH weekend.

Bar snacks, cakes and pasties available all day and breakfast from 9.30 to 11am.

Large car park, plus walkers and cyclists welcome. Regular local community groups including car & motor bike enthusiasts, knitting & cribbage.

Historic Interest

This 15th cent. pub has been much restored & modernised since a fire in 1982. Former Victorian brewpub; at one time the Anchor had 20 acres of pasture land for cattle being herded to London. A report in the Ipswich Journal** on 26 Nov in 1847 states that : The Anchor, Stratford St Mary - Capital brewing plant, fixtures & fittings, 400 gallons of fine old beer to be sold on 1st Dec 1847 by Henry SMITH who quits the occupation...3 pull beer engine...all the house fittings in the tap room & bar; Cellar 100 Gallons of fine old beer, 8 x 94 gallon beer stands, several barrel & smaller casks; Brew House : Excellent 3 coomb brewing Copper with stage & large brass tap, mash tun, under-vat & wort tubs, with other sutiable requisites for the brewing business.
