The Anchor Inn was built in the 16th Century. Its long history is mostly shrouded in mystery but it was certainly a coaching inn with links to the sea.
On the west side of the inn, was a cobbled drive to the back of the building. This is probably where the horses were taken for stabling. It was also a vulnerable area to protect from attack, as shown by the arrow slit in the wall below the current bar.
Pay us a visit and feel the warmth of the stone hearth that has hosted people for more than a millennium, or have a drink on our south-facing terrace where the sun beams down from dawn to dusk … when it shines.
