Please note this Pub is closed 23/07/2018 and became Permanently Closed 30/03/2026 (Housing). Pub closed in 2018 following its purchase by a private buyer who proceeded to strip out the bar and other pub fittings, moved his family into the property and used it as a residential home without permission. Subsequent planning applications by the owner for change of use to residential were refused by Harrogate Borough Council in 2022 and an Asset of Community Value (ACV) was placed on the property. Following further refused applications for change of use, all of which decisions were appealed by the owner, North Yorkshire Council issued an enforcement notice in 2024 to return the property to pub use. This decision was also appealed and in 2026 the Appeal was upheld by The Planning Inspectorate due to the fact that the owner had used the property as a residential dwelling (albeit unlawfully) for four years prior to the enforcement notice.
