The Silk Trader is an imposing brick-built pub overlooking the busy town section of the Silk Road, a few minutes' walk from the station. It was formerly called the Boarhound and before that a more modest pub called the Commercial.
The pub was extensively refurbished in September 2014 to the same high standard of other recently improved Robinsons pubs. The theme as you might expect is the silk industry with lamps featuring wooden bobbins and other silk related artefacts, the dominant colour is a greyish green.
Food is a new feature and is served every day,
There is a wish to retain a community feel and the pool & darts teams have been retained.
There are a couple of screens showing Sky sports but not in every area, the function room can be used for dining if required.
Something of a surprise is the size if the outdoor drinking area which is in a large yard to the rear and wide passageway to the side, as it is south facing it should be a sun-trap in summer.
Beer is from Robinsons, the staple Unicorn is supplemented by Bobbin, a premium beer brewed for the pub?
The third beer is either Dizzy Blond and Trooper on an alternating basis whilst the forth beer is the Robinsons seasonal.
There are plans to extend the range as demand allows.
This Pub serves 2 changing beers (Guest) and 1 regular beer.
