Monkey, Nottingham

A fine Edwardian corner pub with Georgian-style portico corner doorway and once a Shipstone's house. In 1883, an earlier building with the same name was a beerhouse under landlord J.Weston (Wright's Directory). The Framesmith's Arms is named for those who built and maintained the equipment used by framework knitters in the hosiery trade. Known locally as "The Monkey" or "Monkeys" for a one-time landlord's pet animal (Whitworth 2010). The Framesmith's Arms has an entry on Nottingham Civic Society's Draft Local Heritage List (09 December 2013) which notes that the current building was built in 1908 to a design by architects Evans & Son for J. Shipstone & Sons. As at November 2017, the freehold for the Framesmith's Arms (NT341774) was held by Punch Partnerships (PML) Limited [Reg.
