This Pub is Permanently Closed

This 16th century, grade II building became a pub in 1834 to serve workers building the Birmingham to Liverpool railway (who were banned from nearby pubs). The bar has also been a mortuary and auctioneers. Once a very good pub restaurant it became very run down after Punch acquired it. The pub was eventually closed following out of hours drinking, noise complaints, disturbances & fights and the pub operating without a designated premises supervisor. Planning permission for conversion to a dentist's surgery was granted in August 2013 and work on the conversion started a year later. In mid 2014 there was a further planning application t build three houses on part of the site.
