** Advance warning: The Talbot will be closed from Sunday 25th October at 4pm for approximately 5 weeks. It is expected to re-open on the last Friday in November. **

Dating originally from 1642 and claiming to be the oldest pub in town, this family run free house is a bright welcoming place to drink. There's a large stone feature fireplace to the left of the main entrance, which houses a glowing stove in winter. To the rear, the large terraced beer garden is a good place to soak up any summer sun. The five changing beers are almost always from Yorkshire - Kirkby Lonsdale being the only exception! One dark beer is always available, usually a stout, a porter or Old Peculier.

Good value food is served seven days a week, finishing earlier on Sundays (much earlier in winter) - booking is recommended at weekends and in school holidays.

A 'bingo quiz' is held on the first and third Monday of each month. Key sporting events are sometimes shown on the television in the rear left-hand area, if they are available on terrestrial channels. Darts and dominoes teams usually play Tuesday and Thursday in autumn/winter. The pub stays open later if the teams are playing at home (and on Mondays if it is quiz night and Tuesdays if there is jazz.)
