High Street, Settle, BD24 9EX (View on Google Map)

Dating originally from 1642 and claiming to be the oldest pub in town, this family run free house is a bright welcoming place to drink. There's a large stone feature fireplace to the left of the main entrance, which houses a glowing stove in winter. To the rear, the large terraced beer garden is a good place to soak up any summer sun. The five changing beers (four in winter) are almost always from Yorkshire - Kirkby Lonsdale being the only exception! Wensleydale, Kirkstall, Craven Brew Co., Black Sheep, Dark Horse, Wishbone, Pennine, Wharfedale, Ilkley, Saltaire and Roosters feature regularly and Timothy Taylor Boltmaker is often on the bar. One dark beer is always available, usually a stout, a porter or Old Peculier.

Good value food is served seven days a week, finishing earlier on Sundays (much earlier in winter) and with no food mid-week during the afternoon January and February - booking is recommended at weekends and in school holidays.

A 'bingo quiz' is held on the first and third Monday of each month. Key sporting events are sometimes shown on the television in the rear left-hand area, if they are available on terrestrial channels. Darts and dominoes teams usually play Tuesday and Thursday in autumn/winter. The pub stays open later if the teams are playing at home (and on Mondays if it is quiz night and Tuesdays if there is jazz.)
