A West Cheshire Brewery pub. The hotel was built in 1834 and replaced an older hotel of the same name (originally the Woodside Royal Mail Ferry Hotel) and until land reclamation in the mid 19th century was on the riverfront. Said to be one of the oldest pubs in Birkenhead. Mentioned in an advert in 1838 as Poole's Hotel and shown on a map in 1843 as Gough's Hotel. Listed in Bagshaw’s Directory of 1850. Adjacent was the Woodside Hotel Vaults. Extended in 1963. Demolished October 2008 following a fire.
