Historic Interest

Dates from at least 1858 and shown on maps of that date as the Canning Hotel. An Argyle Brewery pub transferred to Birkenhead Brewery pub in 1866. Selling Whitbread beers up to 1981. The old photo is from about 1900. For sale in autumn 1981 because of low trade. Converted to offices in late 1990s and part of the conversion was to fill the cellar with concrete. Later plans for conversion to flats. The shell of the bar is empty and visible.
