A former 19th-century coaching inn close to the parish church, this lively locals pub has been run by the same couple since 1988.
The open plan interior has four distinct segments: two seating areas close to the bar, a smart 'lounge' area, and a games section with pool table and dart board. Memorabilia everywhere, including an encased model of a Burton Union System.
Strong pub games tradition, with several teams. The pub also has its own football team, and a Pigeon Club is based here.
Food limited to filled cobs.
Historic Interest
The earliest mention of this Victorian former coaching inn is in a local trade directory of 1874. Privately owned until bought by Eadie’s Brewery (Burton) in 1898 (see undated old photograph in pub), which was taken over by Bass in 1932. The pub remained with Bass until circa 1991 when it was bought by the current licensees. They sold out to the Heritage Pub Company in 2002 (but remained as lessees) while that company was being bought by Pubmaster! The latter was subsequently taken over by Punch Taverns in 2004, whose pubs were bought by Patron Capital in 2017. Around 40% of such pubs, including this one, continue to be operated by Punch Taverns.
This Pub serves 1 changing beer (From Punch Taverns list.) and 1 regular beer.
