Lively community-oriented free-house, dating back to the 19th-century, now operated by a local consortium who radically refurbished the pub in 2000 after its purchase. A single J-shaped room surrounds a central bar counter, with the short end of the 'J' dominated by a pool table. Popular with pub games enthusiasts.
Food limited to filled cobs/rolls on Friday & Saturday.
Historic Interest
Date of building not known, but the pub (plus land and cottages nearby) was bought by the Brunt & Bucknall Brewery in 1880. The latter was taken over by Salts Brewery in 1919, which was later acquired by Bass in 1927. The pub remained in Bass’s hands until sold to Enterprise Inns in 1991. It was bought by local consortium, which took the name Pleasant Inns, in 1999.
