Historic Interest
The pub was listed in John Stotts 1977 Guide to Good Beer in Bolton as selling Greenall Whitley Bitter and both light and dark Mild (E), with TV darts, dominoes, pool, bowling green, snacks, lunches. Also sold White Shield. Big Hotel in its own grounds. In July 1979 there was an article about Pubs with Bowling Greens and it was noted that there was still one here. In May 1981 this was a Greenall Whitley pub selling Mild and Bitter (E). However in October 1984 the pub was refurbished and converted to Tank beer. Once the pub was sold around 1990, it was renamed the Samuel Crompton (see Bolton News bar photo)
