This extensive Wetherspoon pub converted from two nineteenth century buildings, one Grade II listed, is a large open plan affair with a lower seating area divided into a number of separate linked rooms making sympathetic use of the building's heritage. There are numerous pictures and photos detailing historical features of Alton, the surrounding villages and noteworthy local residents such as Jane Austen, Field Marshal Montgomery and Gilbert White. The twelve handpumps are often doubled up but up to six guests can be available in addition to the three regular ales. particularly during the regular Wetherspoon festivals.
Open for breakfast from 8am: alcohol sales commence from 9am. The ample outside space spreads across three separate seating areas.
