This Pub is Permanently Closed
Dating back to 1868, this tiny pub earned the nickname "Hole in the Wall," which became its official name in 1967 after a rebuild by Ind Coope. The pub was located within the St Matthias conservation area and is classified as a building of townscape merit. It closed in 2006 and Sir David Attenborough bought the property in 2009. He plans to extend his home into the pub and create a wildlife-friendly outdoor space, complete with an orchard, glasshouse and "bog garden" for marsh plants. He intends to preserve the facade. A human skull (the unfortunate Mrs. Thomas?) was found buried whilst carrying out building work thought to be related to an old Richmond murder mystery. This pub was previously known as the Park Road Arms in 1954.
