This Pub is Permanently Closed
Building demolished and replaced by Tesco on ground floor and Bayleaf restaurant on first floor.
One of the increasing number of closed pubs. Once a pleasant pub (Waggon and Horses), now turned into a good but real-ale free Indian restaurant. It's not even certain if you can just buy a drink without a meal here. Unless you are hungry, turn around and seek out the Royal Oak, hidden up a side street a 100m away, or the Vale which is a brisk walk away.
The Bay Leaf Lounge is a newer restaurant and is in direct competition with the more well established Virceroy at the other end of the village.
When we heard the pub was been turned into a bar and restaurant, we thought "Yes, real ale and an attached Indian restaurant - that would work". Unfortunately, out came the real ale pumps and in went a very bright lager and smooth flow bar. We live in hope that the owners will realise that real ale and Indian restaurants go very well together and that if they offered at least bottle conditioned real ale, it would be a selling point. One can live in hope!
West Bollington is still, thank goodness, blessed with a lot of very good real ale pubs. The loss of the Waggon and Horses is noticed.
