Dog & Partridge, Bollington

You want to visit - You have this in
97 Palmerston Street, Bollington, SK10 5JX (View on Google Map)

A cosy stained glass windowed pub with central bar surrounded by a series of small rooms but still retaining the multi-room layout. A former Bells pub, this is very much a community pub. You wouldn't be surprised to learn that this pub has won 'Bollington In Bloom' several times when you see the large colourful hanging baskets which adorn the outside of the pub. Sandwich rolls available at lunchtime. Flat access is available to the pub for wheelchairs but the toilets don't have any special facilities.

Music is very much part of the Dog & Partridge with a function room upstairs which plays host to variety of events: live bands, folk club, jazz group, free band practise room and jamming sessions. Free WiFi access - see the code on the bar. Close to both the Macclesfield canal (drop off at the aqueduct down the steep steps or down Hurst Lane both near bridge 27) and Middlewood Way (drop off at the old railway viaduct).

The pub has darts and pool teams, part of the local leagues. Next to the old Bollington police station, now a house. Dogs and children are welcome. The outside smoking area is renowned for it's splendour. There is a 50 seater function room upstairs which most people are unaware even exists. The folk club meets there on 1st & 3rd Sundays of the Month see http://www.bollyfolk.com/.

Built of stone in 1894 it was extended in 1929 by Bell & Co. It still retains a layout of lobby bar and three small rooms. The servery at the rear right has been in this position for many years and locals say in c.2004 new front panels were added over what was a tiled ??) counter front and a new bar top added over a 1950s Formica one. There is a 1950s brick fireplace here and within the servery an old Guinness clock. Front left small room has 'Parlour' etched windows with good stained and leaded panels at the top, inter-war fixed seating with bell pushes but it has lost its fireplace and has (1960s?) half timbering added to the walls. Front right has 'Tap Room' in etched windows glass, has a red tiled floor in brick herringbone style, but no fixed seating, fireplace lost and now houses a pool table. Rear left has 'Smoke Room' etched windows. the figure '2' on the door, fixed seating which might be 1960s and no fireplace. There is a function room upstairs in the 1929 extension which might have fixed seating from that date, the wood surround fireplace could date from 1930s but the counter has a Formica top and looks to be a 1950/60s addition. An outbuilding was a prison and is dated 1832 i.e. older than the pub. Toilets in a 1970s extension. Not enough for inclusion.
