This is a cosy bar with beamed ceiling, family rooms with interesting antiques, and a summer bar in the large garden. Food includes daily specials and seasonal produce. Parking is available in the public facility opposite but charges apply (except November-February after 6pm. A seasonal ferry runs from the nearby quay to Henry VIII's Hurst Castle, and the Solent Way passes the front door. Hurst Beach and the marshes offer bracing walks and ornithological interest.

No food Mondays and Tuesday in winter (hours shown are from February 2025), longer hours and full food service at other times, please check website.

Historic Interest

Grade II listed. Early 19th century according to Historic England though there there are 1783 records referring to 'The House at the sign of the Gun'. It's also said to be named after Colonel Hawker's punt gun though the pub name pre-dates this so it is more likely it was named after a signpost for Hurst Castle that had the gun image on it. Historic England list entry 1221405.
