Deceptively large stone pub on the moors above the Washburn Valley between Harrogate and Otley. Internally it comprises a large open plan space with two smaller areas to either side of the entrance, one with basic seating, the other with a pool table. There is exposed stonework everywhere with some ceiling beams, wooden flooring in the bar area and pool room and carpeted elsewhere. Furnishing at the entrance end is traditional wheel back chairs, tables with cast iron bases and basic benches, the far end is more of a dining area. There are some welcoming open fires as the aroma of wood smoke on entering makes apparent. Décor is fairly minimal with a few pictures and items of horse harness. At the rear is a patio with views towards Menwith and Nidderdale. It advertises as biker friendly and there were a few bikers in when I called. Six mostly local real ales are served.
